Embracing the Struggle

We all know that nothing good comes easy.  We’ve been taught from childhood that “no pain is no gain.”  We’re all familiar with that.  But because none of us (who are emotionally healthy) like pain, to struggle in life is a never-welcomed enterprise.  Yet because the pathway to our purpose in life (that which we will find the most enjoyment and be the most effective in) is never without pain, we have to EMBRACE THE STRUGGLE and press forward through the painful times in life.

But embracing the struggle sounds crazy, doesn’t it?  Why embrace that which will hurt and cause me pain??  Well, one reason is because God never dismisses the pain we go through.  Because nothing ever takes Him by surprise or catches Him off-guard, He is able to use the pain in our life for a greater purpose.  As Rick Warren says, “There’s always purpose in our pain!”  Instead of running from it… or avoiding it… or ignoring it… embrace it for what it is and run WITH it! Because usually it is at the point when we’re about to give up that God is about to SHOW UP!

Just ask the Israelite army, who was being terrorized by the Philistine version of The Big Show (1 Sam. 17), before God sent a little shepherd boy to deliver them…

Ask King J-Phat, who’s kingdom was about to get trounced unless God came through (2 Chron. 20)…

Ask Shadrach, Meshach, and the Bad Negro (lol), who were about to be turned into human toasted oats (Dan. 3)…

Hard times are when God shines!

So, no matter where you are, what you’re facing, what you’ve done, or what’s been done to you… whether you’ve blown it big-time, or just can’t seem to “catch a break”… whether it’s relational, financial, emotional, educational, occupational, parental… WHATEVER…

Embrace the struggle…
Persevere through the pain…
Keep overcoming those hurdles…

… because your greatest days are ahead of you!!

But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I PRESS on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13-14).

Until lata,
D Plum 😉

  1. LOL! Bad Negro?!

My struggles as of late involve watching and helping my son through his own hurt. That is a struggle I never anticipated as a part of parenting, and is incredibly hard to embrace. But through God’s grace, I am watching my child blossom and mature through this, and I can see how God is using them to help mold him into the little man he is to become. And I’m amazed and thankful for the words God gives me every time he asks me a question. My heart always drops, and I pause…but God always comes through with some words. My baby will be okay. 🙂

Thanks for the link, this is very inspirational, and needed right now. I feel very much like I’m jumping into the fire for my son right now. It’s wonderful to remember that God will meet me there.

    God bless!
