When It’s Really Sweet…

Being of “student” of people and relationships, one of the things that often gets me scratching my head is how you can get together with a group of people you’re just meeting and have a decent time… and get together with another group of people in the same situation and have a totally awesome time – like you’ve been hanging out forever.  The latter situation is how it was tonight, with a group of people I got together with from the church I’ve been attending the last four months.  We had a great time tonight… flowing seamlessly from topic to topic… with everyone being genuinely interested in what each person was sharing.

When community happens, it’s really sweet…

I could totally see myself  hanging out with this crazy group of people again… it’s not everyday that you make these kinds of connections.  But what were some of the things that made tonight so great for me?  Here are a few:

– I was the “new kid” of the group, but no one made me feel like an outsider
– Not only was I not an outsider, my input was valued…
It was very obvious that this was a safe environment
– Because of the above, the topics of discussion were far from superficial

When you go beneath the surface with a group of people, it’s really sweet… because that’s when connection happens… that’s when community begins to form.

And that’s what we were created for.

“Finally, all of you should be of one mind.  Sympathize with each other.  Love each other as brothers and sisters…” (1 Peter 3:8)

Until lata,
D Plum 😉
