The only times I’ve never given my kids what they ask for basically falls into two categories: 1) if what they request is not good for them; or 2) I simply do not have the resources to honor their request.
THINK ABOUT THIS: our Heavenly Father never has a “resource problem”… He is not limited in any way like we are… so, the ONLY times He says ‘No’ to our requests are when our requests are wrong – “You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend it on your pleasures” (James 4:4).
In Matthew 7:7-11 & Luke 11:1-13, Jesus clearly shows us the Father’s heart toward His children… He LONGS FOR us to come to Him in prayer, and He desires to give us good gifts! Here is a principle that we all need to learn well:
As believers, when we learn to live out the reality that WE ARE NOT PAUPERS but PRIVILEGED sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father, our lives will never… ever… be the same again (you might want to retweet that! 😉)
“Ask, and you will receive; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened” (Matt. 7:7-8).
