My Mess, His Miracle

Title: “My Mess, His Miracle”
Text: Proverbs 14:4

“Without oxen a stable stays clean, but you need a strong ox for a large harvest.”

When I was a young boy, like many little boys, I liked my sandwiches “neat and trim”… “No edges, please.” And the sandwich had to be cut in half… DIAGONALLY. None of this “straight down the middle horizontal stuff, thank you very much.” And when I ate my meals, none of my food groups could touch each other… nuh uhhhh! NO! Unless it was hot dog and pork n’ beans, there needed to be CLEAR-CUT BOUNDARIES.

(Can I get an “Amen” , somebody??) 🤣

Now, I’ve come to realize that life just ain’t that way. We want clean and trim, safe and smooth… but life is sometimes everything BUT that…

Life is… messy.

Oh, we can opt for the sterile, clean as a whistle version of life… but that is never what God valls us to. And the truth is… if we’re being honest… that is not what WE want, either! WE want significance… we want purpose… we want a passionate pursuit – and that is the life that God has called us to! It’s a life centered in and around His Son… a life of purpose and passion… BUT. IT. IS. MESSY. God sent His Son into a messy world, by way of a messy stable, no less… to save us from our messy selves and to give us hope for an eternal future.

So, if it’s clean and safe that we’re looking for, Jesus isn’t the One we want to follow… because He says to us. “As the Father has sent Me, so send I you…”

… into the mess…
… to reap a harvest by calling those who are in darkness to come into the marvelous light…

And we will find – as I have found with my OWN life – that sometimes, the greatest miracles…

… come from the biggest messes. 😉
